This I Believe
By Caitlin Connor
I believe that everything happens for a reason. At first when my grandpa died I was depressed and didn’t want to do anything. I didn’t understand why he was taken away from me and my family. It caused my grandma a deep depression so deep that she wouldn’t eat and she would just lay in bed and try to sleep all day, basically she was letting herself die, just so she could be with my grandpa. One day she fell and had to be taken to the hospital. My family and I went to visit her and when we got home we had a long discussion about my grandma, because we could all see that she was suffering. We decided to put her into a nursing home, she was there for about half a year and she wasn’t very happy. One day on Christmas morning, my grandma thought that she was going home, when nobody in my family was ready for that. After our Christmas together, it got really bad. My aunt and uncle had to figure out a way to tell her she wasn’t going to come home, and so they did, and my grandma wouldn’t talk to my family for the longest time. My family got together and we didn’t know what to do, one day we decided that someone would stay home watch her, and take care of her. We tried that for awhile and it worked well so that’s what happened. After that year, I started to see that life could get better and that you don’t have to be stuck in depression when you lose a loved one. I believe that my grandpa was taken from me because he was very ill and miserable, I think he was taken from me because he was ready to go and I know that if he was still here or if he could somehow talk to me and my family he would tell us to be happy and keep living life. It may have taken me awhile to figure this out and live with it but this is why I believe that everything happens for a reason so that better things can fall into place or so you can at least learn to live life to the fullest.
